Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Adivasi Sengel campaign has launched a vigorous movement since early morning, aiming to ensure the success of the 12-hour Bangla bandh.
As part of the protest, the main accused in the Dandi incident has been apprehended. The bandh has been observed in various districts across the state, including South Dinajpur, where its impact has disrupted normal life.
In South Dinajpur, the bandh commenced at 6 am, resulting in the suspension of private bus services from the Balurghat public bus stand. The absence of passengers was noticeable at the government bus stand as well, despite some government buses attempting to operate. However, protesters intercepted and halted these buses at Hilly Junction. Concerned about potential disturbances, a substantial police presence was deployed in Balurghat town.
The Adivasi Sengel campaign aims to draw attention to the grievances and demands of the Adivasi community. By organizing the Bangla bandh, they seek to amplify their voices and press for necessary action from the authorities. The recent arrest of the main accused in the Dandi incident serves as a significant development in their ongoing struggle.
The bandh has inconvenienced local residents and disrupted transportation services, with private buses remaining off the roads. The impact of the protest has been felt in Balurghat, creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and tension. However, authorities are taking precautions to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents.
